Salsa in the Lakes is an outdoor community dance project initiated in January 2016 by Hitesh H Teckchandani (aka The Salsawala) with the vision of spreading Latin dance to one and all. Free and open to everyone, this lakeside gathering celebrates rhythm, connection, and community — bringing people together through Salsa and other Latin dance styles. 💃🌅
Unique to Kolkata, this is one of the only initiatives in India where you’ll find outdoor Latin dance sessions open to all. Whether you’re a morning walker, someone looking for something new to do, or even a visitor exploring the city, everyone is welcome to join in and experience the joy of dancing by the lake.
The session also aims to break stereotypes around partner dancing, showing that Salsa is not a couple’s dance, but a partner dance — where anyone can dance with anyone. It proudly promotes the idea that dance is gender-neutral, and that expression and connection in dance go beyond gender roles.
The session is held once a month on a Saturday.
